November 28th, 2006 Where to start... Well we are adding insulation to the boat and does it ever make a difference. What we got was 1/2 inch closed cell foam (used under sleeping bags and exercise mats) and we are putting it in the back of all cabinets and open areas next to the hull. Once we get it all done, then we will cover it with wood stripping. Already we notice the difference with outside temperatures at 34 degrees, one little electric heater was keeping the whole boat warm (72.9 degrees).
Thanksgiving was
spent at our dock neighbors house, Steve and Lisa. They are just wonderful
hosts that put up with us. Along with us, were our other dock neighbors,
Jeff and Tessa. Both of them have just become U.S. citizens and were
celebrating their first Thanksgiving (being from Canada, they don't know about
Thanksgiving).
After dinner Jay and Nicky stopped by to finish off the days celebration. The next day was a sad day as Jeff and Tessa left the Marina and are taking
their boat to Florida to cruise the Islands.
We will miss them on the dock. It sure is getting empty around here with
everybody going south. Next year it will be our turn.

Just been a normal week. Not much happening. Sailing for the season
is over and Solitaire has been put to bed for the winter. This last
Friday, Nancy and I went and looked at a Mason 54 for our friends.
It was a wonderful sailing vessel. If it didn't cost so much Nancy said
"forget the friends, lets buy it".
We did something out of the ordinary for us. We have booked a trip to
China. We will be staying in Beijing and seeing the Great Wall and all of
that tourist stuff. The price was too good to pass up and we figured that
is someplace that we would never sail to. So in a couple of weeks, off we
go. Our hotel is a five star and looks wonderful.
The room is large and has a separate sitting area.
We will find out what it really is like when we get there. That's about
all this week. Talk to you later.

Fall is definitely in the air. The corn is mostly harvested and the
trees are turning. Next to our pool you can see the great colors that we
have here.
The roses are still doing great although we are supposed to freeze this
weekend, I hope they will still make it for a little longer.
Nancy is staying home this week or should I say sleeping at home this week.
She is working out at the
Dulles International Airport this week at her office out there and if
traffic is good she can make it back to the boat is 1 hour and 30 minutes but
most of the time it takes a couple of hours. Last weekend we did the
cancer
fund raising again
and
worked the yard sale. Weather wasn't as nice as the weekend before but
still was pleasant. I ran across Mark this week at the docks( we had met
him and his wife in Bonaire). They were just waiting to get their boat
bottom painted and then take off to the clear blue waters of the south.
Slow week this week. I am only working one day but next week I work 3
days. Working that much gets in the way of retirement. Bye for
now.
